21 Days of Prayer and Purpose

Day 17

Matthew 14:22 And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away. 23 And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.

Jesus alone. No one around. No crowds pulling at Him. Alone. He had been with the followers and as was his custom He was pouring himself into them with incredible and awe inspiring events. Yet he chose to be alone. By himself... to pray. Imagine, why would the master of all things get by himself to pray? I am certain he was very accustomed to the quiet and peaceful moments where he could clear his mind and prepare for the future.

An example to anyone who was following him then as well as an example for us today. There will come times when we must get away from the crowds and the noise... to pray. Finding the inner peace and the comfort of solitude can bring a sense of purpose and pleasure in a mixed up world. In the story we refer to in Matthews account, we can see that the disciples were entering into a storm of their lives... and they too were alone and separated from Jesus.

In our time of prayer and purpose as a church family, we will gain strength and courage for what lays ahead of us. We do not know what tomorrow holds and we no not the plan He has ahead of us... but we are walking by faith. Jesus was alone in prayer and the disciples were moving forward in the boat... when the storm came, Jesus left his solitude and made his way towards the chaos of the storm. He was absolutely prepared for what laid ahead and the alone time made the difference. Take time to be alone... and PRAY!
